Eine "Bibel". Das impliziert, dass dieses Buch DER Standard für FileMaker sein muss und somit in aller Breite alle Aspekte abdeckt. Bei einer Bibel gehe ich davon aus, dass sowohl Themen auf Einsteigerniveau als auch auf fortgeschrittenem Niveau umfassend abgehandelt werden.Das wäre dann quasi die "Eier legende Wollmilchsau" der FileMaker 10 Bücher... Die gibt es natürlich nicht.Das Buch kann seinen hohen (überhöhten?) Ansprüchen aus meiner Sicht nicht gerecht werden. Das soll aber nicht heissen, dass es ein schlechtes Buch ist. Es ist kein schlechtes Buch, es versucht einzig einen Spagat, der a priori zum Scheitern verurteilt ist.Ziemlich gut ist aus meiner Sicht die umfassende Beschreibung der grundlegenden Themen, die in Part I (The Fundamentals) und Part II (Introduction to Database Design) abgehandelt werden. Wer sich die Lektüre von Fachbüchern gewohnt ist, wird hier eine detaillierte, routinierte Einführung finden.Part III heisst "Beyond the Basic". Dieser Part stellt eine klare Zäsur zu den Parts I+II dar. Plötzlich werden Dinge in den Erklärungen vorausgesetzt, die noch gar nicht thematisiert wurden. Plötzlich wird man mit sehr langen Skripten/Algorithmen/Berechnungen bombardiert. Diese Beispiele sind zwar nicht schlecht, aber es wird (meist) bloss noch erklärt, was sie machen, nicht jedoch warum die entscheidenden Skriptpassagen so und so umgesetzt wurden. Hier ist das Buch zu oberflächlich und didaktisch schlecht.Nichtsdestotrotz kann man - vor allem, wenn man auch noch andere Bücher über FileMaker 10 gelesen hat - aus den Parts III-VI viele Tipps, Tricks und Hinweise mitnehmen. Für die, die's brauchen gibt's z.B. eine kurze Grundeinführung in relationale Datenbanken, es werden verschiedne Layout-Konzepte des Datenbankgraphen erläutert oder auch Themen wie Sicherheit/Berechtigungen und Logging (usw.) behandelt. Zu kurz kommen mir Themen wie FileMaker Server oder Konzepte zu Multiuser Applikationen.Das Buch ist gut. Ich würde es aber nicht als einziges Buch empfehlen. Zu 1-2 anderen Büchern kann es als gute Ergänzung dienen.
